Creating Memorable Family Fun

Summer is the perfect time of year for families to come together, enjoy the sunshine, and create lasting memories. When the days are longer, the possibilities for fun and adventure are endless.  However, it can be difficult to think of the best ways to create quality experiences with family that are practical and economical.  As the school year approaches, we want to truly cherish time at home with our children, but we might be stuck trying to think of outings, vacations, and activities that will add value to our lives rather than add stress or financial strain in this busy time.

See the list below for some of our favorite family bonding activities for the summertime!

Creative and Memorable Summer Activities for Families

Breakfast in the Park

  • Beat the heat and have a yummy breakfast in the park with your children! This can be as elaborate or simple as you want- making egg sandwiches at home or picking up bagels or donuts on the way.  This is a fun and easy way to do something special with your family before the kids are back in school.

Family Talent Show

  • Plan a family talent show where each person performs for the whole family! This can be a ton of fun and a huge confidence booster for your children.  Allow them to choose any type of presentation they like- academic, musical, comedic, artistic, etc.- and then make the event feel special with a fun drink, popcorn, and dessert.

International Chef Night

  • If you’re looking for a more educational experience for your children (and a tasty one, too!), having an international chef night is perfect for you! Have each child pick a country they are interested in, do a bit of research on the cuisine from that country, and pick a dish to make for the whole family to try.  From choosing the dish to grocery shopping and cooking, this is a sweet and special way to spend quality time with your children while learning more about different cultures!

Homemade Art Show

  • Create a mini art gallery in your house or in the neighborhood.  You can have your children create as many pieces of art as they like, and display them with descriptions of the work.  Make it festive by serving lemonade and even putting prices on the items and giving each child fake money to purchase each other’s art with.

Dress-up Contest

  • Brainstorm a theme with your children and then have a dress-up contest.  This can be as big or small as you want, creating a red carpet with them and doing a full fashion show, or simply wearing your costumes to the dinner table.

Family Camp

  • Combine the events listed to create a fun camp for your whole family to enjoy!  If you want, the camp can last a whole week, and each day can have a different theme or activity.  You might go to the zoo or a museum one day, go hiking the next, enjoy a free concert in the park, have a game night, go to a drive-in movie- the possibilities are endless!

 Sundae Bar

What is a better way to savor the last moments of summer than making a family Sundae Bar?  Bring the children shopping to pick out their favorite sweet toppings like the ones we've suggested below!

Here are some ideas to get you started!

- Your Choice of Ice Cream
- Fruit- strawberries, bananas, raspberries
- Toppings- M&Ms, toffee bits, gummy bears, nuts
- Whipped Cream
- Sprinkles
- Maraschino Cherries
- Caramel Sauce

Hot Fudge Sauce Recipe

  • 1 cup chocolate chips

  • 1/4 cup water

  • 1 Tbs. butter

  • 1/4 cup sugar

  • 1/4 cup light syrup

  • 1 tsp. vanilla

Combine chocolate chips, water, and butter and microwave until chocolate is melted. Stir the remaining ingredients into the chocolate mixture. Microwave for 1-2 minutes, stirring until completely smooth and blended together. Refrigerate and reheat for use!

Assemble bowls with the dry toppings and put out spoons so that each person can choose what they want and how much.  Scoop ice cream into each person's bowl.  Help young children with the sauces and whipped cream and enjoy!

Connect with Home Unlimited On Social Media

Did you know that Home Unlimited is on social media?

Since November of last year, we have been on Instagram and Facebook, posting helpful content for our followers that aligns with out mission.  Our goal at Home Unlimited is to provide women with the resources they need to create happy and functional homes.  We seek to strengthen the role of the individual in the home and in society by honoring the dignity of each person.  Through our practical, hands-on seminars, we offer the skills and tools women need in order to truly thrive in home life.

Rooted in the message of St. Josemaria, our philosophy stems from the belief that daily work can be sanctified if we do it well and intentionally.  When we treat each task as an opportunity to grow in love of God and of those around us, we are able to find deeper meaning and fulfillment in our duties.

Our mission on social media is to promote the value of the home in our society and to provide more women with the resources to learn, grow, and develop in tacit knowledge and wisdom. To support what we do, follow our pages on Instagram and Facebook, like our content, and share it with friends and family!

Make sure to follow @HomeUnlimitedInc on Facebook and Instagram  and subscribe to our newsletter for information on our latest seminars, tips and tricks for your home, and more!
